Jennifer Lopez stepped up the inauguration stage to perform a variety of patriotic songs – and it took a moment to slip through one of her own songs and address the nation in Spanish.
Lopez started her performance with the song “This Land is Your Land”, and moved on to “America the Beautiful.” Then Lopez spoke Spanish.
And she said, “One nation under God is indivisible, and freedom and justice for all.” Part of the oath of allegiance echoed: “One nation, under God, is inseparable from freedom and justice for all.”
She is Puerto Rican, Lopez has many Latin albums and often sings in Spanish. During last year’s Super Bowl halftime show, both Lopez and teammate Shakira celebrated their culture of singing and dancing, and gave a representation of Hispanic Americans. Lopez also directed Colombian singer J. Palvin and Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny.
Lopez’s opening performances were reminiscent of her Super Bowl show, when she slipped into the 2000 song “Let’s Get Loud” that she also sang during the break with her daughter Emme Muñiz.
Many fans are on Twitter She was proud Lopez took a moment to add her own flair and recite part of the pledge in Spanish. “We were watching the opening and JLo Speak Spanish. One student in my class says, “I know what she said !!” This is why acting is so important! ” One teacher tweeted.
One Twitter user wrote, “Jennifer Lopez says part of the pledge is in Spanish … amazing. Wonderfully fit.”
Another said, “Yes, I’m Puerto Rican and I can’t stop crying.”
